First, you need to "claim" the tax refund and get the form from the store. You must jump though many hoops to get it back. ![]() The vat tax is about 20% and you get about 12% back. Also, keep in mind the "tax refund" is not the full amount that you pay in tax. The clerk said this would end after the holiday season (when all the tourist go home). SO if you are from any country outside the European Union you cannot get the posted sale price, you would pay full price even if it was marked as a % off. ![]() Sadly we had shopped and purchased some items before we became aware of this rip off of non eu tourists, once we found out we left the store. I was shocked to find that the sale prices 20%-60% off sale items did not apply to non EU tourists. Most of the brands carried in the store are high end luxury brands with high prices. Same for all my other purchases there.Ĭrowded, very crowded many tourist (mostly Asian) purchasing luxury items. Spent 2950 and only getting back 336.30 euro. 06% cut, but adds up if you are planning to buy a Chanel bag or something of the like in price. I bought a Givenchy bag at 1650 euros and they give the full 12% on their receipt, and bought a smaller purchase, Celine sunglasses at 325 euros and same thing, I’m receiving 12% back. They have most of the designers and the store is easier to shop in bc less crowds. On the other hand, I went to Le Bon Marche (LBM) which is a super luxury department store, smaller than LG, and more upscale. I told them I have a no fee credit card, and they said that’s how it is. When you go to the self serve kiosk at GL, it says you may receive 10.8%-11.4% refund on card, and when I asked why, they said due to my bank fees. When you are spending thousands of dollars that does add up. The problem is that the VAT refund for Non EU citizens is 12%, however Galeries Lafayette (GL) only gives you back 11.4%. ![]() They have an amazing selection of luxury brands and goods. Of course, you need to go to Galeries Lafayette. I went to Paris on a luxury shopping trip. If you are in Paris you definitely need to take in the shopping experiences even if it is not your style and this should be on your list of places to check out! ![]() We went during the middle of the day and were only there with around 10-15 other people which was hard to believe compared to other viewpoints we had been at such as the Arc de Triomphe. If you happen to be in the area this is a good option to get a panoramic view without having to pay any additional cost. They also have a small ice skating rink on the roof as well for those who want to skate with a view. The terrace is free to access and provides a nice view of the city without as much crowds as other viewpoints of the city. While there and browsing around we discovered that they also had a rooftop terrace which we did not previously know about. During the holidays they have a large central Christmas tree that adds another layer of festivity. It is a multistory department store with a very intricate central roof that many people often photograph. Considering how big fashion is in Paris in particular we expected shopping to be a large part and chose to stop by this shopping center. Because many people come from all over the world to visit the city and potentially buy souvenirs the malls can be very elaborate. After visiting Thailand and Singapore earlier last year we found it interesting to see some of the malls and shopping centers in other countries.
